Thanks to all who give to the church

Supporting Your Parish Church

This year, it will cost around £30,000 (about £600 per week) to run Thanington Parish Church and to do the routine maintenance of the historic St Nicholas Church building.

Where does this money come from? Mostly from the regular giving of people in the congregation, occasional fund-raising events and one-off donations. We are grateful for all of these contributions, both large and small.

However, for major repairs and improvements to this grade II* listed church building, we have to raise additional funds.  For example, in 2023, the long overdue repair of the lychgate cost £24,000.  We are currently praying and working to raise £50,000 for essential repairs to the church roof to keep it watertight. This means applying for grants, inviting donations and doing local fund-raising events. In fact, raising funds from the local community is one of the keys to gaining grant funding.

If you value the presence of St Nicholas Church in Thanington and want to keep this historic church building in good shape for the people of Thanington, please consider making a donation or doing a fund-raising activity in aid of the church.

We recognise that for some this is just not an option because of the rising cost of living. But for those who can afford it, here are all the different ways to give to the work of Thanington Parish Church:

The Parish Giving Scheme provides a way for people to give to the church, regularly by direct debit or as a one-off donation. UK taxpayers can also register for Gift Aid, increasing the value of the gift to our church at no cost to yourself. The Parish Giving Scheme is secure, confidential, and easy to use for church members. To find out more, visit Thanington’s Parish Giving page.
